Attaching pictures

I haven't been able to figure out how to attach pictures and have them retain a decent size so that enough detail comes through. What am I doing wrong?

Edit:
Never mind. I just re-uploaded my .png images in another post with .jpg and they retain their size. Evidently the forum software doesn't like png files.
