I have both the 9424-A and the 9424-C intake maifold, and they appear to be the exact same dimensions. The only difference is the size of the hole for the Temperature Sensor (1/4" vs 3/8")
The parts manual says that 9424-A was used 1n 1956 and that 9424-C was used in 1956/1957.
Obviously, 9424-A was only used with the Holly Carburetors. However, 9424-C could have been used with both Holly and Carter. One could assume that the change to the 9424-C intake manifold was concurrent with the change to Carter, but I have seen no proof of that.
I have made the same assumption.
It turns out my friend’s clearance problem was from it having 2 3/8” thick carb spacer to help with vapor lock, which is actually a fuel pump problem.
