John has a '56 Mark II. But, I'm guessing he would take either the early (GEN 1) or the later (GEN 2) styles.

I didn't think there was a height difference on the manifold. Why the difference in the cap?

I have no idea why, but there definitely is!

The reason I brought that up is someone that has a '57 says he can't close his hood with the air cleaner on it and wondered if he got a '56 engine back from the rebuilder. I'll ask about his block number.

I've got one comimg from MKII Enterprises....$25.e.I already know when it arrives it wont work...over the winter I replaced my intake manifold gaskets and took off the valve pushrod cover just to take a peek under there and I found this home made thing. Thats the underside

I didn't know it at the time (but I do now) that the vent cap was a faucet strainer...lol
If you been following along for the past almost 3 years, Lots of surprises with this car for sure

I tried to resolve the height issue for you. Al's '57 has its original engine and there's no space for a finger above the cap.

My car has a '57 engine but all the ancillaries are '56, so I'm not sure if I have an -A or -C manifold.

Could someone take a photo of their '56 filter cap relative to the bottom of the intake manifold?
