Rear Heat

Should there be an opening in my door panels to vent heat in the rear when the door is closed? I don't have that opening on my panels. Any ideas?

After closer inspection...it looks like the door was recovered and the holes were not cut out...I can feel the openings under the material wrapped over the openings
