The quality of new condensers seems to be an issue on many 50-60s cars. I have heard of many failures in the RR/Bentley owners club. People are starting to look for NOS ones.

I don't know if this is true: NOS condensers may not age well and can lead to failures too.

Fitting electronic ignition this means the condenser is eliminated so as well as improved starting & idling this source of failure is removed. I built my own from a kit, good project on a cold winters evening!

My experience and the same reported issues from many RR/Bentley owners indicates new condensers failures are at least true in those series of cars. I even had a RR service manager tell me they don't replace the ignition condenser in the older cars unless they have failed. In terms of NOS condensers not aging well, I doubt that is true. Many condensers in 50s-60s cars have been subjected to engine heat, vibration, etc and still work after 40-50 years. I would expect that something sitting on the shelf would be in better condition. I have several NOS ones working in my 60s cars (current and ones that I have sold) and they are fine after a number of years of service.


Of course, there are limited manufacturing sources for old RR parts and perhaps the condenser issues are not wide spread but limited to the RR replacement manufacturers.

Larry, I don't remember where I saw that assertion; it could be in the Cadillac club forum. Anyway, I have some NOS contacts and condensers on stock. They are getting expensive...
