Another idea re: hub caps / wheel covers falling off

Helping a friend out with his MK II - Don't own one myself.

I was told that one should weld a thin bead in 3 or 4 spots around the wheel just outboard from where the teeth bite,
around an inch long each, giving the teeth something to really bite into.

Well, what do you all think about that idea?
Anyone try it?

I'm inclined to do it, if I get the go ahead from the owner.

not a bad idea - I would do five welds at the lug hole positions and make them as close to the same length as possible to keep any balance issues to a minimum. Post some pics!
