It seems as if we sometimes look for original key codes. In searching, I found the Ignition Key code started with "FL"; the deck lids start with "FZ".

Got codes for 2524?

No sorry. OBTW, I love the color of light green of 2524; one of my favorites. Anyway, these key codes were on the production orders of most exported cars. All we can say is FL was used for the ignition and FZ for the deck lid. So, I wonder, since your keys already work: Is there a way to take your keys and ascertain the code based on the cut? Just wondering if a locksmith could reverse engineer the code? Good luck. John

My keys look worn out because the cuts seem to be rounded off and not very deep.

Can you tell me what the key codes are for 2198?

I want to get a second set of keys made but would like them to be cut as original.

My old ignition key from 1763 opens the trunk on 2198. I find that interesting.

Your best bet is to take your ignition lock and the glove box lock and/or the trunk lock and have the locksmith read the codes off each lock and then make each respective key. Since 2198 was produced for use in the US, I don't know of any Key code records for your car. As you've noted above, because these locks are over 60 years old, they are worn and many keys could now open the same lock. Best of luck,

Here's some information I learned when disassembling my door locks and covers for rechroming.

I learned something else the other day when talking to a locksmith. While the key lock assembly is out of the car, you might want to take it to a locksmith so they can tell you the pin depths. For a 5 pin lock like ours, they give you five digits such as 21331. If you have those numbers and you get locked out of the car, any locksmith can cut a key for you without visiting the car. Of course, he also needs to know the type of car to get an appropriate key blank. I would expect a locksmith would be able to tell you the pin depths by measuring a good key but I never thought to ask. In either case, it might be a number you want to keep in your wallet or store on your cell phone.

I have a old key punch machine vs the grinders now used. I also have a code book but forget how far it goes back.

Dad was a lock smith & I have all his old stuff.

I have punched keys using code book and numbers on locks.
