Have noticed several cars with front bumper guards in my quest to learn as much as I can about the Mark ll. Found no mention on the net. I'm sure there is a story? George Perry

They only went on cars that were shipped to states that required front license plates.

Good question, arkusvt, one that I would have never thought to ask. My car has bumper guards and somehow I just assumed they were an option you could order if you liked the look of bumper guards (or were prone to run into things).

For some reason, Barry's answer caught me off guard that there actually was a reason and the reason was so simple. Starting 1/1/25 Utah no longer requires front license plates. I guess that will then make my bumper guards superfluous appendages.

License plates and titles are handled by the 50 states, with different systems. That's why so many Continental titles incorrectly call it a Lincoln. I got the Michigan SOS to change the heading as I found it easy to prove that Continental was separate Division of Ford.

The confusion is understandable. Ford never issued a title or plates. That paperwork was matched to the buyer at the dealer level. They were charged with filling out the paperwork. That work fell to the lowest clerical worker at the Lincoln dealer, that also sold Mercury-brand cars yet there seemed to be no confusion there, filled out the paperwork, went to the Secretary of State and worked with the lowest level clerical worker on the front line of state workers and mistakes happened.

I also got the Orphan Car Show to acknowledge the Continental as an orphan brand. I was the first, and got a trophy, but had to be pushed across the awards stage as my battery cut-off decided to melt while in line.
