I am looking for the correct bolt specifications (size and quantity) for the water pump. If it's in the manuals I can't find it. Thanks.

There are a lot of different lengths due to accessories mounted on the pump and the timing chain housing. I pre-assembled and mock-up everything making sure there was enough sticking through the back of the timing chain cover to get a minimum of 1.5 to 2 nuts worth of threads into the block. Since a number of bolts go into the water jacket I find it best to clean all the threads.

The bolts don't have to be super strong and the vast majority get painted, so you can use about any grade or type fastener. The length is the important factor.

Barry, you wouldn't happen to have recorded the lengths of the 8 water pump bolts?:o

No, I didn’t. I have a free, endless, supply of fasteners from my commercial neighbor, Metro Bolt.

When I took the water pump off, I carefully put the bolts in a zip-lock bag. The bag seems to have gone over the rainbow to see Toto.

I never bag and tag, just for the very reason I stated. They go into a bag and disappear from sight. These cars are so old you have no idea if it was put back together right the last time, so I do my own length analysis. If you want something done right, do it yourself. Don't ever depend on the last person doing it right.

I would be happy to give you the lengths tomorrow when I'm at the shop. I will make a chart from a photo.

Thanks, Barry. I've often thought of how useful it would be to have a resource that listed the bolts and other fastener specifications for the Mark II.
