Default ECU Engine Identification - 1062

I am restoring 1062, and I suspect it has a Dealership rebuilt engine in it. Attached are the numbers on the engine. Please have a look and tell me what you think this is. Thanks.

The number you’re looking for is not a casting number, it’s a hand stamped number set in the metal at the base of the distributor. If it’s not there it’s not one of the original Mark II engines. However, while it’s nice to have an original I’ve seen zero proof that there’s anything different abut them, at all.

Here you can see an example for a Mark II engine number (1521):

Thanks Holger! Do you have a date code cast in the block at all? Just wondering for curiosity sake. My GTO has date codes cast in everything, and the VIN is stamped in the block as well, so I am trying to learn what Ford did back in the day to identify their engines. Hope all is well in Europe!

    Hello Myke,

unfortunately, as you surely know, not everything is good in Europe at the moment.

I do not have any date codes on the engine and I also do not know that Ford used such a code.

Pontiac also only started to hit the VIN in the engine in 1967 or 1968.

My 1966 GTO has no VIN in the engine, the date code only allows an approximate assignment of the engine to the vehicle.
